Public Involvement Matters
Involving patients and the public in research helps ensure that the outcomes are more relevant to real-world needs and more likely to be adopted in healthcare settings. Researchers often gain meaningful insights and practical ideas when they collaborate with people who have lived experience.
We work closely with UCLH Biomedical Research Centre for involving patients and public in our work.
Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE)
The Data Trust
Committee (DTC)
We offer health data for research, but not without ethical safeguards.
We’re proud to include members of the public and UCLH clinical staff as equal partners on our ethics committee. The DTC reviews and approves data research applications that are part of our Data Access Process for Research (DAP-R).
Data request applications are reviewed on a monthly basis. The committee members bring invaluable lived experience, perspectives, and expertise. This diverse membership ensures that ethical decisions are grounded in real-world patient insights, strengthening Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE).
Having members of the public review our data requests is crucial to maintaining trust and transparency in how patient data is used. The DTC ensures that only studies with patient and public benefit, scientific rigor, and ethical use of data are approved.
