Industry Collaboration

SAFEHR exists to enable responsible and impactful use of health data.

We work with industry partners who share our commitment to improving health and care, strengthening evidence, and maintaining public trust.

With industry partners we support the development, evaluation, and adoption of data-driven healthcare innovation in real NHS settings.

We provide secure, governed access to multimodal hospital data, helping partners design and validate tools that deliver genuine benefit to patients and the health system.

Our services for industry partners

01 Secure multimodal data access & cohort services

We provide secure, anonymised access to curated, multimodal hospital data for approved projects.

What we support:

  • Real world evidence studies
  • Cohort feasibility and population counts
  • Anonymised data for research
  • Multimodal data linkage (e.g. EHR data, imaging, clinical text) found at our summary of data available
  • Access via most secure option available, under project-specific approvals
  • Structured data in a consistent format via OMOP (Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership) Common Data Model

You can view what structured data is available using our data catalogue .

02 Data for, and evaluation of AI

We support the independent evaluation of data-driven tools in a safe and clinically meaningful way.

This includes:

  • Retrospective validation of AI using anonymised hospital data. You can view example projects at MS-PINPOINT and Prostate MRI .
  • Bias, fairness, and population impact assessment

Digital Innovation Hub (DIH)

Contact our Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) partners (uclh.digitalinnovationhub@nhs.net) for:

  • Conducting service evaluations within real NHS clinical environments
  • Testing cutting-edge solutions embedded in clinical workflows
  • Generation of evidence of impact and usability, building robust evidence to support business cases and NHS adoption

03 Synthetic data & early-stage development support

For early-stage work, we offer synthetic data assets. You can view some of our structured synthetic data here. This data mimics the patterns and structure of real-world data without including any actual patient information and has been approved by our information governance teams.

At the present time this data can be used as a way for users to see what the data might look like before going through the governance approvals for the patient data.

We aim in the future to be able to use synthetic data for:

  • Prototype algorithms and analytics
  • Test feasibility before accessing real data
  • Develop methods, training pipelines, and study designs
  • Support education and skills development

This provides a low-risk entry point for collaboration.

04 Future Developments

We are working towards data-enabled and digitally-enabled trials embedded in real clin workflows. Please contact us for more information.

This service will be particularly suited to trials in complex pathways and specialist care.
