SAFEHR at UCLH’s Research Open Day

The SAFEHR team was proud to participate in UCLH’s Research Open Day 2025.

Our stall focused on the importance of data anonymisation in research. Our aim was to raise awareness among the public, patients, and healthcare professionals about how anonymising health data plays a crucial role in protecting patient privacy while enabling valuable research.

Guess Who?

To encourage public engagement, we created an interactive ‘Guess Who’ inspired game that demonstrated how a motivated intruder (in this case, a nosy reporter) could use indirect identifiers from a small data set to re-identify a patient and discover their diagnosis.

The data engineering team discussed our data pipelines and anonymisation processes with curious attendees, even bringing out the laptop to show synthetic datasets.

Overall, the SAFEHR stall was well-received and sparked meaningful conversations around trust, transparency, and the future of data in healthcare. A day well spent!
