There are many research teams with expertise that is not available within the NHS. We already use people such as these as external contractors inside the NHS to support digital, data, technology work. They work under honorary contracts with a direct care relationship.

We are currently working to create a pathway for research teams to do the same. We will clearly demarcate when someone is working as a researcher and needs research governance, and when someone is working to assist with NHS (direct care) work.
